Celcom has now reached 1 million total status checks in May 2020. So far the status check via Celcom's website has become their most preferred channel during the lockdown in April and May.
This year, connectivity has become more important then ever before. This milestone achieved by Celcom is great proof of how service checkers can help provide insight and self service capabilities for the benefit of both operators and customers.
We are pleased to announce that Metricell has successfully passed the accreditation process for ISO 22301 - the globally recognised standard for business continuity. ISO 22301 specifies the requirements for a management system to protect against, reduce the likelihood of, and ensure the business recovers from disruptive incidents. This is the third of Metricell's ISO accreditations along with ISO 27001 and ISO 9001.
TNM is one of Malawi’s largest operators and has been the first to bring a range of pioneering services to the market including 3G services for video calling and music streaming. As part of their commitment to continually improve the experience of their customers, TMN will look to update their TNM Smart App with Metricell’s crowdsourcing capabilities.

MTS is the #1 mobile network operator in Russia, Armenia and Belarus with the biggest subscriber base - over 86.7 million subscribers. As of 2017, MTS had the largest market share of 31% in Russia.
The new order from MTS Russia includes Metricell TMA Devices and cloud based software for fully automated Service Quality Assurance relying on on-device customer metrics.
With this news, Metricell now serve 3 out of the Big 4 national operators in the RUCIS region.

Congratulations! Celcom have just completed their 500,000th check on their Service Checker platform, consisting of both SmartAgents and website traffic. This Service Checker deployment is a fantastic achievement not just for Metricell, but also for Celcom who have been exceptionally proactive promoting it to the market as part of their wider strategy to harness digital transformation for the benefit of customer experience.
Wanting to get a better understanding of the real-time telecommunications service provided to their Isleworth HQ, Sky have decided to deploy Metricell’s Enterprise Service Assurance offering.
The technology will help the stakeholders in charge of building service provision continually improve their infrastructure across their national HQ in Isleworth. Their campus is home to over 5,000 Sky employees as well as their 37,700 square metre office where they will now have direct access to a range of mission-critical network KPIs.
Based on Metricell’s Beacon technology, the real-time monitoring devices will be replicating typical user behaviour, such as making voice calls, uploading and downloading data. All results will be accessible via Metricell’s UK hosted SmartTools platform and for the first time, provide Sky with insights into voice, coverage and data experience that their employees rely upon day-in-day-out.
A fantastic start for 2020 this month as we welcomed a number of partners from across the Middle East to Dubai for our first ever partner event in the region. It provided an excellent opportunity to spend time with our commercial partners, present the latest evolutions and capabilities of our technology and enjoy the excellent refreshments and facilities provided by the Rove Hotel. Celcom have launched their Network Service Checker onto their Live website today, representing the first such deployment in the Malaysian market. Utilising Metricell’s award winning technology, Celcom aim to become more transparent with their customers by allowing them to query the network status at locations important to them.
The launch of Service Checker compliments Celcom’s recent release of their SmartAgents deployment, utilising network information across multiple touch points to better serve their customers both in the contact centre and online.

London-based Telefonica colleagues & Metricell managers met for a very enjoyable team day here at The Big Blue. Metricell’s large nationwide team of radio planning & optimisation specialists are leading the way in 5G for Telefonica right across the UK.
This month the APAC team hosted the first-ever MetriSell sales event in Asia, hosting a wide range of partners from different countries in the region including Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Brunei. The event was focussed on the new directions introduced in the MetriSell event earlier in the year (Enterprise, Crowdscore, Regulators) whilst gaining feedback from the local market.
A team of Metricell volunteers recently completed a 5K Tough Mudder course in support of Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance. The course, based at nearby Holmbush Farm, included a range of obstacles and tons upon tons of wet mud to battle through! Team work was crucial as the 20 person delegation conquered cargo net pyramids, slippery ramps and freezing water for a commemorative T shirt, a complimentary beer and the satisfaction of overcoming the course together.
Part of a range of charity initiatives supported by the software company throughout the year, the KSSAA provides an essential medical service to sick and injured people in hard-to-reach places. Last year alone, they were called out to help over 2,000 people in life-threatening conditions. Thanks to friends, family and supporters, Metricell were able to beat their £1000 fund raising goal with a final total of £1181!
Great news this month as Metricell successfully passes the accreditation process for two globally recognised business standards. The ISO 9001 standard lays out the framework for a quality management system designed to ensure consistency in the delivery of quality products and services to customers. Becoming certified for this standard required rigorous assessment of how we meet quality, customer and regulatory requirements across our product and services portfolio. Marketing’s recent SmartTools user survey really showed how we are taking customer feedback on, and our Service Desk structure also worked in our favour during our week long audit. ISO 27001 is an addition to 9001 that provides a detailed specification for an information security management system (ISMS). This framework incorporates legal, physical and technical controls involved in the storage, processing and risk management of information handling and management. Our IT team have done an incredible job in helping us to meet these expectations and well done to all involved for this fantastic result!
Our award winning Status Checker technology has hit 10,000,000 unique checks and associated automated messages for our largest UK customer. Since its launch in 2016, Status Checker allows a network operator's subscribers to query live network service status for any location of interest. The data coming in from these checks is invaluable in identifying potential emerging network faults, as well as providing a fast, digital route to care outside of traditional call centre channels. This drives huge operational savings for the operator as well as proven improvements for customer satisfaction metrics such as NPS.

On the 19th June, our APAC team visited the Critical Communications World show in Kuala Lumpur. The three day event featured a series of keynote speaker sessions, masterclasses and panel discussions by industry experts, along with a showcase theatre highlighting the latest and greatest technology. The visit provided an excellent opportunity for networking as well as a chance to see the new offerings and propositions from some of the world's leading names in communications.
Digicel have been long term users of our AutoMobile and SmartTools products, primarily with the goal of nationwide benchmarking against their competitors, as well as identifying new areas where the network requires further optimisation. The coming year will see them will look to further leverage the Layer 3 collection capabilities of our drive test units. Metricell have completed a new project with Brazilian network operator, Nextel, to enhance their “MyNextel” account management application with new crowdsourcing functionality. This lightweight and invisible addition to the application now means that over a million app users can help Nextel gain greater insight into network performance across Brazil through the collection of anonymous usage and performance data uploaded directly from the customer’s devices.
To maximise the business value of this new data, Nextel will use Metricell’s web-based SmartTools visualisation software which presents the experience information within views such as popular app performance to help place subscriber experience within a network context. This allows a variety of departments, from engineers to customer care teams, see localised and subscriber-centric information on performance across their territory such as areas of no service, low throughput zones, locations with low signal strength, demographics of high Wi-Fi use, and more. These capabilities will assist Nextel in their mission to provide an ever-increasing level of service quality for their customers through the identification of key priorities for network investment and optimisation.

Our MEA Manager, Mohamed Alami, has been hard at work with members of our HQ and local partner, Rachid Bradai of partner agency Alissar, to deliver an ambitious benchmarking project in Algeria. The aim of this initiative is to assess Ooredoo’s network in relation to their key competitors, Mobilis and Djezzy, to see how the subscriber’s experience can be improved.
There are currently 15 devices testing within this initiative which is set to rise to 105 as the project progresses. These devices will maintain a key focus on the collection of Layer 1/3, POLQA and OTT data to ensure the most customer-centric tests that they can. The data is accessible via a custom-built dashboard in Ooredoo’s SmartTools project as well as bespoke reporting produced by our Consulting division.
We are delighted to announce we have reached the next stage of the Gatwick Diamond Business Awards competition. A few months ago, we submitted entries for the following awards: Innovation and Technology, International Business of the Year, Developing People for Business Success and Professional Services Firm of the Year. Over the past two weeks, the judges have been visiting our HQ to find out more. We will find out next month if we will be finalists in these four categories! Fingers crossed!
For the sixth year in a row, Austrian technology body, FutureZone, have conducted a full drive test of the country’s top network operators. This involved Metricell’s AutoMobile technology being used across 14,000km of road and rail to record over one million measurement points. The conclusion of the project saw operator A1 emerge on top with the best upload and download speeds. The win will see telent partner with Metricell to deliver the ESN Assure service and follows an announcement from the Home Office in September for a ‘new strategic direction’ for ESN. It aims to save £200 million in public money per year by fully replacing the current radio-based network with a mobile 4G network. The new approach will mean emergency service users including police, fire and ambulance services can use data services over the network from as early as next year, with voice capabilities following soon after. The move aims to transform the emergency services way of working, especially in remote areas and at critical times when faced with network congestion, giving them priority over commercial users. The project will involve both walk and drive testing of this new network along with all required training and reporting. Read full release.
We’re proud to announce hitting a major milestone in the history of our capture of data measurements. Across AutoMobile, Beacon, MCC and service checks we have now captured in excess of 15 billion individual points. As our projects expand in scope, our back end systems are also scaling in order to accommodate the growing measurements we capture for our operator customers. Here’s to the next 15 billion!
This month, we have been continuing our charity fundraising for the British Heart Foundation by holding a Halloween raffle and party! In fact, Metricell staff have been so generous, we have hit a new raffle record, raising £272! We had a fantastic selection of raffle prizes, which were kindly donated by Metricell and local businesses. We would like to say congratulations to the winners and a big thank you to everyone for all your support!
We were pleased to visit the Horsham Drill Hall this month for their annual job fair. A wide range of local companies attended the event and we enjoyed talking to those looking for a new opportunity in technology with Metricell. Well done to all those on the stand who secured a record number of interested signups!
We’d like to send a hearty congratulations to our RUCIS team on the one year anniversary of the formation of their new team. The past year has seen them manage a transformative office move, a crucial event monitoring project over the summer, as well as working to grow our relationships with some of the largest operators in the region. Denis, Gennady and Alex are doing fantastic work and we look forward to welcoming them back to our HQ very soon.
The GDG (Google Developer Group) held another meet-up this month with a talk and introduction on the new Kotlin language. Kotlin is being positioned as an alternative to Java which combines both object-orientated and functional programming features. The session was well-attended and provided an excellent opportunity to make use of the Big Blue’s newly refurbished conference space on the ground floor. Thanks to our Senior Mobile Developer, Fahad Ayaz, for continuing to organise these sessions.
2018 has seen Metricell take on a hugely ambitious transformation project of the Big Blue’s ground floor. Since our move here in 2016, the downstairs area of the ex-factory building has consisted of a loading bay area and a large open space which presumably once housed production machines. For the first half of 2018, it has been extensively renovated to provide modern and truly unique facilities for both visitors and staff. It now includes a large conference space, social area, cafe and gym and offers a weekly breakfast and lunch menu for hungry Metricellians. It was officially opened with a party that conveniently coincided with the first England Vs. Belgium game and was a great way to spend some time together and get used to our new surroundings. Well done to all involved for such a great achievement!
Our APAC Manager, Sean Orrell, has now successfully completed both his new team and base of operations in Kuala Lumpur. Izmi, Padman and Sean have now moved into a fully serviced office with fantastic views of the surrounding city. Looks like they’re all ready for visits!
Metricell welcomed a group of enthusiastic individuals to the Big Blue earlier this month for an apprenticeship workshop afternoon. The candidates had a glimpse into working life here at Metricell and learnt about the exciting roles to help jump start their new careers. Our in-house recruitment team are always on the lookout for ambitious individuals to join our company in areas such as Software Development, Customer Support, Project Management and Digital Marketing. The event was a fantastic success and we look forward to welcoming the next generation of apprentices on board!

Metricell’s directors and marketers visited Horsham’s 2018 Apprenticeship fair on Saturday to meet a variety of professional prospects looking to either make their start or get back into the working world. During the afternoon, numerous visitors dropped by our Metri-Booth to chat about a range of opportunities from sales to software development. Our ex-apprentice, now employee, Faisal Ahmed, also made time to sit on a Q&A panel and field questions from the next generation of apprentices.
